Small cells are utilised both inside and outside, but with distinct requirements.

Indoor Small Cells

In order to meet the demand for high-speed and reliably managed data traffic, indoor small cells are installed in a variety of locations, including malls, sports stadiums, and railway stations.

Indoor small cell installation necessitates careful planning that takes into account deployment time, money, carrier support (single or multi-carrier), and the type of small cells that will be employed.

Femtocells are effective for homes and small businesses. In locations needing more wide coverage or to increase network capacity in places with high demand, such railway stations, somewhat bigger picocells are deployed.

Outdoor Small Cells

In densely populated locations, outdoor small cells are set up to assist the macro network in providing dependable coverage and efficient capacity.

The deployment or use of poles, the hardware cabinet, and the structural capabilities of the planned placement of the wireless communication facility and equipment must all be considered during the installation of outdoor small cells.

Similar to Wi-Fi, small cell systems are set up using an Ethernet LAN. To comply with physical separation requirements, provide PoE+ service at the edge, and provide power protection, E-RAN is frequently combined with Software Defined LAN (SD-LAN) in business deployments. Through a private VLAN, E-RAN may also share a corporate LAN. Power-efficient tiny cells from E-RAN operate over POE+ and Cat5e. For secure indoor transmission, E-RAN small cells employ an Ethernet VLAN that is based on SD-LAN.
